The moniker comes from my kids who coined the term after I returned from a backpacking trip sporting a full, bright red beard. Since I love the outdoors and actually grew up living on a mountain (at 3,849ft Mt. Diablo just barely qualifies), the nickname sorta stuck.

Pre-race non-jitters
Dick Collins tomorrow morning. I am way too relaxed and casual for before a 50 miler (it's not like I've done dozens of them or something). This is probably a bad sign. I should probably go get my gear together or pack a drop bag or something...
Thanks guys. I'm not really worried, I just know that for a 50K I can just "show up and run", but usually am a little more on top of my preparation for 50M+. Maybe I'm actually starting to figure out the longer distances. It will definitely be fun, especially with all the mud!
Thanks for the comments. In the end the race went well. Time-wise, it went REALLY well taking almost an hour off last year's race. However, I probably beat myself up a bit more than planned with somewhat stiff legs during much of the race and my right heal hurting pretty bad. I definitely have some rehab work to do in the next two weeks. Ice will be my best friend! I will write a report up when I get time.

Nothing to worry about, I think. Good luck out there tomorrow!
Steve-
You have nothing to worry about. Just have fun!
Cheers,

I hear someone thundering behind me...I just know it's Steve!
Looks like you can just "show up and run" at 50 miles now!
Great job at Firetrails!
hope it went well!

Congrats. on your time at Fire Trails 50m. You should be able to run 20 hours at Javelina 100.

Uh...yeah...I'll be happy with a finish at Javelina if my foot holds up. However, a sub-24 would be very, very cool. No plans, just dreams :-)
